What is Cued Speech?
Cued Speech is a mode of communication that uses the mouth and hand to visually distinguish the building blocks or phonemes of a spoken language, thus allowing for the clear transmission of language between two or more cuers. Handshapes, hand placements, and hand movements combine with mouth movements to clearly show the stream of consonants and vowels that represent the words and thoughts of the cuer.
Cued Speech Users include individuals of all ages who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have auditory processing or learning disabilities as well as family members, friends, and professionals who interact with them.  It is also sometimes used by speech therapists or early-childhood educators as a visual reinforcer of speech or phonics.
